The Baconawa Clan has been in the beekeeping industry since 1981 in response to the government’s program dubbed as “Pukyutang Barangay”, a brainchild of Professor Efren T. Baconawa, the Chief Planning Officer of Bureau of Animal Industry under the Department of Agriculture, Philippines.
Together with their father, E.T. Baconawa, the sons and daughters (Ma. Esther, Efren Jr., Efren Antonio, Efren Cornelio, Efren Thomas, Ma. Evelyn, and Efren Hernan) established the beekeeping industry known as The E.T. BACONAWA BEEWORKS NUTRITIONAL PRODUCTS (BBNP) with the inspiration of their mother, Dr. Rizalina R. Duano-Baconawa, retired guidance counselor from the Department of Education.
The beekeeping business focuses on Apis mellifera, Apis cerana, and Trigona species.
